Googleの新アルゴリズム、 #Hummingbird   （ハミングバード）について。 ブログには来週月曜日に書くとして、社内向けに主要ポイントを速報レポートしたので、それをシェアする。 ▼ここから▼ 簡単に言うと、 検索アルゴリズムのベースの刷新です。 Caffeine以来となっていますが、Caffeineはアルゴリズムというよりは インフラの刷新なのでちょっとニュアンスが違います。 Caffeineはインデックスの仕組みを新たにして、 インデックスの劇的なスピードアップを実現しました。 一方Hummingbirdは、ランキングを決めるアルゴリズムの刷新です。 とはいえ、今までのアルゴリズムを100%完全に置き換えるものではなく、 今までのアルゴリズムの良いところは残してあります。 特徴は「自然言語」の理解です。 検索クエリに含まれる特定の単語を重視するのではなく、 文全体を理解します。 いわゆるセマンティックの能力が向上しました。 たとえば、 “pizza hut calories per slice”（ピザハットの1ピースのカロリー）というクエリでは、 今まではこんなイメージの結果でした。 http://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/pizza-hut ピザハットのサイトのページは検索結果には出ません。 Hummingbirdはピザハットのサイトのページを返します。 http://www.pizzahut.com/nutritionpizza.html このページは、“pizza hut calories per slice”という「ワード」を含んでいません。 しかしその「情報」を含んでいます。 クエリとこのページに書かれていることの「意味」を Google（Hummingbird）が理解している証拠です。 約1ヶ月前に導入されたとのことです。 変動は起こったのでしょうが、 パンダやペンギンのように大変動ということはなかったと思われます。 もし大変動を起こしていたら騒ぎになっていますね。 常にランキング変動の状況を監視している人は、 言われてみればあの変動がHummingbirdの影響かなと気付くかもしれません。 ▲ここまで▲

schema.org has moved to full HTTPS. https://schema.org/ It happened just recently. They got the certificate on 15th Oct. One thing I don't like is they don't canonicalize http to https; no 301 or no rel="canonical". Anyway, it's nice.

SMX Parisで明らかになったGoogleアプリの「Location-Aware Search」はすごい。今いる場所を検出して、何を対象にして検索したのかを判断してくれる。 http://searchengineland.com/google-amazing-location-aware-search-222823 たとえば、エッフェルタワーの前に立って「How tall is this tower?」（この塔の高さは？）と音声で質問すればエッフェルタワーの高さを返してくる。 レストランの前で「When does this restaurant open」（このレストランは何時に開店する？）と聞けば、そのレストランの開店時間を答える。 “this”（これ、この）が何を指しているかを位置情報をもとに判断できる。 驚いたことに、日本にいても機能した。「how long is this river」（この川の長さは？）と音声検索したら、"this river" を "Tama River" に自動で置き換えて、僕の家から徒歩5分くらいにある多摩川の長さを答えた。 でも日本語で「この川の長さは」と試したけどダメだった。ほかのお店や建物、場所なら日本語でもできるだろうか？ 外出したときに試してみる。

#smx  Google is working on making index for Apps (not smartphone). I heard it from two Googlers separately. So, it's true. We currently need to have a corresponding webpage and link it to content in an App in order to implement App Indexing.  But the requirements will be gone in the future.
