Here in Japan there is a strong emotional reaction to the accident last year. We are having an election on the 16th and my own daughter will be voting only for people who promise to shut down all the reactors permanently. I understand those emotions,but it's unfortunate that anti-nuke frenzy has overtaken the environmentalists. The fact is,CO2 output is up since the reactors were shut down. This should be their main concern,since global warming is going to do far more than a nuclear plant accident to make the planet unlivable. My own preferred policy is to turn the safest reactors back on and use them for the rest of their life spans while working on solutions to replace them -- either safer nuclear power or other forms of energy production that are environmentally viable.
